The text used in this 4
hour course is “How to read a Nautical Chart” by Nigel Calder.
The text is included in the price of the course. Subjects covered include: Students having plotting
instruments, such as dividers, parallel rules etc. are asked to bring
these items along to aid in practicing the techniques presented. GPS for
Mariners: 2009 Schedule to be announced soon. The
text used in this 8 hour course is “GPS for Mariners” by Robert J.
Sweet. The text is included
in the price of the course. Subjects
covered include: How GPS works, covering
signals and orbits enough to understand the installation requirements
and limitations on the performance of GPS. How to get the most out of
the displayed information on the GPS receiver.
This includes the use of the controls, with emphasis on the
various means of entering positions, and then laying out routes while
avoiding hazards. Students
having portable GPS receivers and plotters are encouraged to bring them
along so that the material is tailored to their individual sets.
We will provide 12Vdc power supplies with “cigarette lighter”
connectors as well as terminal lugs for powering the students’ GPS
receivers. To register for
